Wooohhhweeee! If you’re in education, there is no doubt that these past few years have felt like one big rollercoaster ride. From the pandemic, to CDC guidelines, to politics, to teacher shortages, to guest-teacher shortages, to school board meeting showdowns…the list seems unending.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we’ve polled our administrator and teacher friends to create a different kind of list; one filled with gratitude and with thanks.
Check out our list of all things to be thankful for according to those on the frontlines in our schools:
- Watching children welcome a new classmate to our ‘learning family’
- Having recess duty on a beautiful autumn afternoon
- Scanning my classroom and seeing that (almost) all my students are ‘on task’
- Fall break, Winter Break, Spring Break!
- My teacher-bestie leaving a handful of chocolates on my desk
- Matching grade-level T-Shirts
- Seeing my students having an ‘a-ha’ moment!
- Walking into my classroom with everything in place after being out sick
- Listening to my ELL students engaging in conversation using their newly acquired English!
- ‘Jeans Day’ for teachers
- When my students accidentally call me ‘mom’, ‘auntie’, and even ‘grandma’! There’s nothing sweeter.
- When I complete screening and testing so that I can actually teach!
- Having the support of my administration
- Being allowed to use my own creativity in my teaching
- Our school staff ‘walking-club’ doing a few laps around the gym after dismissal
- Undisrupted planning time!
- Noticing specific children using self-regulating techniques
- Our hardworking custodial staff that keeps our building spic and span!
- The smell of a newly opened box of crayons, newly printed book, and new tub of Play-Doh
- Hearing our PreK students singing joyfully in the classroom
At GrapeSEED we’re thankful for school staff at every level, for families, and for students. You are a gift!
